Dark Matter: Season 1, Episode 1 Mashup Podcast

Blake Crouch created the show based on his 2016 novel. The series premiered on Apple TV+ on May 8, 2024. In August 2024, the series was renewed for a second season, which is due to premiere on August 28, 2026.

Season 1, Episode 1:

In this premiere episode, we meet the Dessen family: Jason, Daniela, and Charlie. Jason meets with a friend of his for drinks to celebrate an award given to Ryan. After the celebration, however, a masked man kidnaps Jason, brings him to an abandoned warehouse, and then Jason wakes up in a different place. He talks with a man he used to know, Leighton, who tells him he has been missing for just over 14 months.

Jason escapes the facility and makes it back to his house; the only problem is that it is not his house. At least not the house where he last saw his wife, Daniela, and kid, Charlie. Instead, a woman who is not his wife is there, and the house is very different from the last time he saw it. His son’s room is now an office, and his wife is nowhere to be seen. Jason runs out of the house when he sees people outside looking for him.

Meanwhile, back at Jason’s house, another Jason comes home to Daniela, and this Jason does not waste much time getting Jason’s wife into bed. What is going on? Is this a Jason from the future or a different universe?

This first episode really brought me in, and on the podcast I said I could not wait to see the next episode. Apple TV has some of the best shows right now. Each series has drawn me in, and I am looking forward to covering more Apple shows down the road. I am currently catching up on Shrinking, and we will cover it closer to when season 4 drops.
