That’s right, Ted Lasso is back for a 4th season!
Pete and Mike discuss Ted Lasso’s return and the start of this new adventure. From what I remember hearing, there was supposed to be a spin-off featuring some of the ancillary characters from the original series. But shortly after that, word spread that Ted Lasso was returning for a 4th season.
Ted Lasso Background:
The show was developed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly. It is based on a character Sudeikis portrayed in a series of promotional media for NBC Sports’ coverage of England’s soccer Premier League. The show follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who is hired to coach an English soccer team, A.F.C. Richmond, whose owner secretly hopes his inexperience will lead it to failure. However, Lasso’s happy-go-lucky leadership helps turn around not only the team’s luck but also the players’ character.
Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted, Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Willis Beard, Nick Mohammed as Nathan “Nate” Shelley, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Andrea Anders as Michelle Lasso, and Grant Feely as Henry Lasso.

Back to jolly old England:
In the 4th season premiere, we find Ted back in Kansas working a part-time job at a grocery store. Some familiar faces show up to ask him if he would want to come back to repeat his magic with the newly formed A.F.C. Richmond Women’s team. The three who show up are his closest friends from the original series: Rebecca, Leslie, and Keeley. Ted struggles with the decision because he loves being in his son’s life now and does not want to jeopardize their time again. Being away from Henry was the toughest thing for Ted during the first three seasons.

Before they got into their pitch, Ted treated the overseas visitors to some good ol fashioned barbecue. Then there was a running gag that Rebecca would get barbecue sauce on the shirt she was wearing. At the end of the episode, Ted texts his ex-wife asking if it was a crazy idea to move the three of them over to England so he could take up Rebecca on her offer. The person answering is Henry because he was using his mom’s phone, but Henry texts back saying that a change of scenery would be nice, and his mom likes the idea too.

What will season 4 bring?
That is a good question. Keeley is like a kid in a candy store with all the ideas for the women’s league—however, one of the other teams already folded due to money. We are hoping that Ted does not make this journey over to coach in a league that goes under. At least, as of this time, his family will be with him. Will his anxiety levels be lower with them there with him? Stay tuned, as we will be covering Ted Lasso each week, as it is one of my favorite shows on Apple TV.
